Karl is king of cars!

Karl Eirik Haug the mand behind the geniuos magazine Carl`s cars is in New York togheter with Stéphanie Dumont (art director) where Society of Publication Designs anual award for best magazine design takes place. I stil remember geting my hands on the first issue. It was like a new religion was born and from the shelf at the local gass station it looked at me with those nice glossy pages.

Carl's Cars is a magazine about people. Carl's Cars is also the first magazine which blends car culture with music, fashion, film and design. Carl's Cars is about people's creativity: All the strange things people say, all the random stuff they do, and the cars they drive. Every one of them is a friend of the magazine.

Karl Eirik Haug and Stéphanie Dumont are working for Carl at Carl's Cars. The idea came from a napkin. The name Carl's Cars was written together with other suggestions for a possible magazine about car culture. The people who sat around the table voted for Carl's Cars.

Now the napkin is gone and the magazine is a reality.
Do you park your car in front of your fireplace? Or on the pink wall-to-wall carpeting in your bedroom? Then Carl would like to speak with you. Maybe you'll be in the magazine.

The five finalists for MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR, the most coveted award of the design community, are Stéphanie Dumont, Creative Director of Carl*s Cars, followed by Arem Duplessis, Art Director of The New York Times Magazine and Janet Froelich,
Creative Director of T: The New York Times Style Magazine. The Magazine of the Year Award was announced at the Society’s annual Awards Gala, held Friday, May 5, 2006 at The Hammerstein Ballroom.

Faster pussycat! KILL! KILL!

The Rural Fellini, King Leer of Hollywood, or the Walt Disney of Skin Flicks, call him what you will, no one can doubt the influence of the great Russ Meyer. The prodigious director made 27 films in a career that spanned more than 40 years. Writing, directing, filming, editing, and much of the time producing his own films, Meyer was a one-man movie-making machine.

Never one to shy away from controversy, the much-disputed Meyer shattered the staid stereotypes of a conservative post-war America, breaking down the boundaries between female empowerment and exploitation, between sexuality and iconography. One of the true auteurs of American independent filmmaking in the latter half of the twentieth century, his brassy babes, klutzy cuckolds and horny Hercules have inspired an army of fans around the world.

Meyer's iconic works of high camp have become part of the cultural tapestry of modern pop art; his influence can be still be felt across the modern fashion, music and advertising industries. Love him or loathe him, Meyer's impact was huge. What more would you expect from a man whose 3-volume autobiography was called A CLEAN BREAST?
